Cookies & Relation to The Global Policy

PURPOSE: This page explains in detail about cookies and similar technologies to recognize You when You visit this Site. Where able, You’ll find descriptions of (some) cookies, the ones and types we use, who writes/provides them, what they do, if they’re necessary, if you can opt-out–and if so, how to opt-out. In some cases, cookies collect information that becomes personal information only IF combined with other information.

THE GLOBAL POLICY: The Terms, definitions, offerings, and information on this page (“The Cookies Provision,” “(The) Provision”) are incorporated and integrated into The Global Policy. Therefore, together they make one, joint, singular Global Policy. Likewise, all Terms of The Global Policy apply to these Terms, such as Warranty and Indemnification.

Cookies: An Overview

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other device that You use when You visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.

Why Do You Engage Cookies?

Many can make Your experience better and in various ways. For instance, if You’re a Registered User, a cookie can let You stay logged-in, preventing a need to re-enter Your password.

The Site uses first and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for the Site to operate, and those are called “essential” or “strictly necessary” cookies. YOU CAN NEVER OPT-OUT OF ESSENTIAL/STRICTLY NECESSARY COOKIES.

Can They Spy on Me? Do They Jeopardize My Security?

Yes, some cookies can and do ”spy” on you, in the deepest of definitions used by some people. I share this to be clear since My Site is Powered by Trust™. However, it’d be a gross misrepresentation to say the cookies used here “spy” on You–that is not My intent.

Yes, some cookies may technically jeopardize Your security, though I’m not aware of any such types of cookies used on this Site. Again, I offer this transparency because the site is Powered by Trust™. Yet again, no cookies encountered on this Site are known to Me to compromise your security in ANY way!

Cookies Distinguished: Who Makes Them & What They Do

Defined: First vs. Third Party Cookies

Cookies set by the Site owner are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the Site owner are called “third party cookies”. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality on or through the website (e.g., interactive content, security enforcement, analytics, error logs, etc.).

The parties that set these third party cookies can recognize, for example, Your browser and/or device. That may happen both when upon visiting this Site and also when visiting certain other websites. In the second case, a cookie ought to only know the last page you visited on this site before you left. The types on this site are not intended to report back to Me any data they may record regarding what you do after you leave this Site. I have not knowingly deployed such cookies.

Other cookies also enable Me to track and target the interests of Users to enhance the Site experience. Third parties serve cookies through the Site for analytics and other purposes (N.b.: I do not sell your personal information). This is described in more detail below.

The specific types of some first and third party cookies served through the Site, and some of the purposes they perform, are described below.

Your Cookie Control Options

How can I control cookies? You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject exposure to various cookies on this Site. You can exercise Your cookie rights by setting Your preferences in the Cookie Consent Manager. Right now, You can only choose to either accept all or otherwise to immediately leave the Site. In other words, as of now, you cannot opt-out of only some cookies yet still allow others. You still have other ways of minimizing what your device shares with the site via cookies.

In the future, the Cookie Consent Manager may allow You to select which categories of cookies or specific cookies You could accept or reject. Essential cookies cannot be rejected because they are strictly necessary to provide You with services.

You can exercise certain broad cookie and marketing controls that apply to participating websites (details below) across the Internet. These options may tend to shield Your identity or may block certain cookies from working entirely (or in-part) on all participating websites.

Defined: Other Way to Classify Cookies

Please see the section below. Besides splitting by who issues/writes/accesses the cookie (i.e., first- and third party cookie), they’re also classified by their function(s).

Specific Cookies on The Site

Non-Exhaustive List of Cookies

While it’s not practical nor required to list every cookie, You may encounter [FORTHCOMING: SEE BELOW] a cookie(s) from this list of a cookie’s filename, issuer/service, purpose, duration, and whether it’s required or optional. As of now, all cookies are considered essential (required). I plan to develop an opt-out procedure for some cookies (in the future).

The specific types of first and third party cookies served through the Website(s) and the purposes they perform are described in the table below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary depending on the specific Online Properties You visit). This list may be updated at any time. Conversely, a new cookie(s) may be used but not entered immediately into this list. Therefore, this list is neither comprehensive nor exhaustive.

Essential Website Cookies

These types cookies are strictly necessary to provide you with services available through our Websites and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas. These are also called Required cookies.

Performance and Functionality Cookies

These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of the Site but are non-essential. However, without these cookies, certain functionality (like videos, layout, graphics, etc.) may become unavailable.

Social Networking Cookies

These cookies are used to enable You to directly share pages and content that you find interesting on the Site via popular social networking services. These cookies may also be used for advertising purposes.

Coming Soon: Listing of Specific Cookies Used

I’m compiling a list of specific cookies used, and it will be posted here. The list is not guaranteed to be exhaustive, comprehensive, or updated in real-time nor near real-time, due to technical and publishing constraints.

Your Data Rights & Choices

Cookie Consent Manager: You May Control Some Cookies

The Cookie Consent Manager is an in-page pop-up notification on the Site. It appears the first time You visit the Site from a browser/device. It should appear in the bottom-right side of the browser, but some devices may show it elsewhere.

Right now, You have two options, and You MUST select one: (1) You can agree to the terms and accept all of the cookies and therefore can use the Site; or, (2) You can disagree with the notice and reject the terms. For the second option, You MUST therefore immediately stop using the Site, leave the Site, and not return to the Site. You MUST NOT return to the site unless and until You decide to accept and agree to the notice and all terms.

If you accept and agree to the Cookie Consent Manager terms, including this Provision and The Global Policy, Your choice will be remembered by that specific device until: (1) You clear that browser’s cache; or, (2) after 365 days from accepting via that device–whichever comes first.

Planned Feature: In the future, You may be able to reject certain types of cookies and allow others via the Cookie Consent Manager. That means You could still use the Site even if You disagree to certain cookies. For instance, if You reject cookies, You may still use the Site, though Your access to some functionality and areas may be restricted and/or degraded. You could also set or amend Your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. As the means by which you can refuse cookies through Your web browser controls vary from browser-to-browser, so You should visit your browser’s help center for more information.

Other Control Options & Web-Wide Choices

In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. If You would like to find out more information, please visit https://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or https://www.youronlinechoices.com. More ad control options are listed in The Global Policy.
