Privacy and Your Ad Choices & Relation to The Global Policy

PURPOSE: This page explains in detail about cookies and similar technologies to recognize You when You visit this Site. It also explains your ad choices and privacy implications. You’ll find descriptions of cookies, the ones and types we use, who writes/provides them, what they do, if they’re necessary, how this impacts your privacy, if you can opt-out/your ad choices–and if so, how to opt-out and help protect your privacy. In some cases, cookies collect information that becomes personal information IF combined with other information.

THE GLOBAL POLICY: The Terms, definitions, offerings, and information on this page (“The Cookies Provision,” “(The) Provision”) are incorporated and integrated into The Global Policy. Therefore, together they make one, joint, singular Global Policy. Likewise, all Terms of The Global Policy apply to these Terms, such as but not limited to Warranty and Indemnification.

Cookies: An Overview

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or any other device that You use when You visit a website, including corykoz.com. These files are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, to work more efficiently, or to provide analytic information. You have broad ad choices and abilities to help to protect your privacy at this site and even across many participating sites across the web.

Why Do You Engage Cookies?

Many can make Your experience better and in various ways. For instance, if You’re a Registered User, a cookie can let You stay logged-in, preventing a need to re-enter Your password.

The Site uses third party cookies for several reasons, but I regularly review them for ways to help protect your privacy and to ensure that you have some ad choices, when able. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for the Site to operate, and those are called “essential” or “strictly necessary” cookies. YOU CAN NEVER OPT-OUT OF ESSENTIAL/STRICTLY NECESSARY COOKIES.

Can They Spy on Me? Do They Jeopardize My Security? How do they impact my privacy?

Yes, some cookies across the internet can and do ”spy” on you, in senses of definitions used by some people and privacy rights groups. I share this to be clear since My Site is Powered by Trust™. However, it’d be a gross misrepresentation to say the cookies used here “spy” on You–that is not My intent. Further, as noted, I provide you with your ad choices that may help to protect your privacy.

Yes, some cookies may technically jeopardize Your security in terms of privacy, though I’m not aware of any such types of cookies used on this Site. Again, I offer this transparency because the site is Powered by Trust™. Yet again, no cookies encountered on this Site are known to Me to compromise your security in ANY way! Also, you have the ability to exercise ad choices.

Who Makes Them & What They Do

Defined: First vs. Third Party

Cookies set by the Site owner are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by parties other than the Site owner are called “third party cookies”. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality on or through the website (e.g., interactive content, security enforcement, analytics, error logs, etc.).

The parties that set these third party cookies can recognize, for example, Your browser and/or device, but they don’t provide personally identifying data to me (except as explained below in the list of specific ones). That may happen both when upon visiting this Site and also when visiting certain other websites. In the second case, a cookie may know, for instance, the last page you visited on this site before you left. The types on this site are not intended to report back to Me any data they may record regarding what you do after you leave this Site except for aggregate data. I have not knowingly deploy files that may otherwise compromise your privacy, and I provide some of your ad choices herein.

Other cookies also enable Me to track and target the interests of Users to enhance the Site experience. Third parties serve cookies through the Site for analytics and other purposes (N.b.: I do not sell your personal information). This is described in more detail below. I aim to use privacy-preserving files ones and ones that respect your ad choices.

The specific types of some first and third party cookies served through the Site, some of the purposes they perform, and how they impact your privacy and ad choices, are described below.

Your Ad Choices & Privacy Options

How can you control cookies, your privacy, and your ad choices? You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject exposure to various cookies on this Site. CONSENT MANAGER UNDER RECONSTRUCTION: You can exercise Your cookie rights by setting Your preferences in the Cookie Consent Manager. Right now, You can only choose to either accept all such files or otherwise to immediately leave the Site. In other words, as of now, you cannot opt-out of only one or some yet still allow others. You still have other ways of minimizing what your device shares with the site via these data files, and I describe some ad choices and privacy options below.

In the future and once reinstated, the Cookie Consent Manager may allow You to select which categories of cookies or specific ones You could accept or reject. This could help you exercise your and choices and could help you manage your privacy here and across the web (depending on which privacy tools you use). Essential cookies cannot be rejected because they are strictly necessary to provide You with services or content.

You can exercise certain broad cookie and privacy/ad choice controls that apply to participating websites (details below) across the Internet: that is, these broad controls can help protect your privacy and preserve your ad choices across many websites—not just corykoz.com. These options may tend to shield Your identity and preserve your privacy or may block some of these data files from working entirely (or in-part) on all participating websites. Thus, there are tradeoffs when exercising privacy controls and ad choices.

Defined: Other Way to Classify Cookies

Please see the section below. Besides splitting by who issues/writes/accesses the cookie (i.e., first- and third party versions), they’re also classified by their function(s).

Specific Cookies on The Site

Non-Exhaustive List

While it’s not practical nor required to list every cookie, You may encounter one or more from this (click) list of filenames, issuer/service, purpose, duration, and whether it’s required or optional. As of now, all cookies are considered essential (required). I plan to develop an opt-out procedure for some (in the future).

The specific types of first and third party cookies served through the Website(s) and the purposes they perform are described in the table below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary depending on the specific Online Properties You visit). This list may be updated at any time. Conversely, a new cookie(s) may be used but not entered immediately into this list. Therefore, this list is neither comprehensive nor exhaustive.

Essential Website Cookies

This type of file is strictly necessary to provide you with services available through our Websites and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas. These are also called Required or Essential cookies.

Performance and Functionality Cookies

This type of file is used to enhance the performance and functionality of the Site but are non-essential. However, without these cookies, certain functionality (like videos, layout, graphics, etc.) may become unavailable.

Social Networking Cookies

These cookies are used to enable You to directly share pages and content that you find interesting on the Site via popular social networking services. These cookies may also be used for advertising purposes, though as of the date of revision (end of page), I don’t serve ads.

Specific Cookies Used

You may encounter one or more of the following third-party cookies. They are used to serve content.

  • googletagmanager.com: This is for Google Analytics and provides aggregated data to help me, among other things: analyze traffic (such as to know when to upgrade hosting to support higher traffic or the opposite), identify the most frequently visited pages to tailor them (and for the opposite: to improve upon poor content), and other such purposes. While this cookie does not identify you personally, it does collect location data but is only displayed at an aggregate level, meaning I cannot specifically identify your personal location.
  • google.com: This is for some purposes of the above (googletagmanager.com) and is also for submitting data to Google’s search engine to improve search results.
  • youtube.com: This supports serving embedded content from YouTube, such as videos you may see on some pages. I do not receive any data about or related to you from this cookie.

Your Data Rights, Privacy & Ad Choices

Consent Manager: You May Control Some Cookies

NOTE—CURRENTLY MALFUNCTIONING—TO BE FIXED SOON: The Cookie Consent Manager is an in-page pop-up notification on the Site. It appears the first time You visit the Site from a browser/device. It should appear in the bottom-right side of the browser, but some devices may show it elsewhere.

DESPITE THE CONSENT MANAGER NOT CURRENTLY WORKING, THE FOLLOWING STILL APPLIES: Right now, You have two options, and You MUST select one: (1) You can agree to the terms and accept all of the cookies and therefore can use the Site; or, (2) You can disagree with the notice and reject the terms. For the second option, You MUST therefore immediately stop using the Site, leave the Site, and not return to the Site. You MUST NOT return to the site unless and until You decide to accept and agree to the notice and all terms.

If you accept and agree to the above Cookie Consent Manager terms, including this Provision and The Global Policy, Your choice will be remembered by that specific device until: (1) You clear that browser’s cache; or, (2) after 365 days from accepting via that device–whichever comes first.

Planned Feature: In the future and once the tool is repaired, You may be able to reject certain types of cookies and allow others via the Cookie Consent Manager, once it’s fixed. That means You could still use the Site even if You disagree to certain cookies. For instance, if You reject cookies, You may still use the Site, though Your access to some functionality and areas may be restricted and/or degraded. You could also set or amend Your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. As the means by which you can refuse cookies through Your web browser controls vary from browser-to-browser, so You should visit your browser’s help center for more information.

Other Control Options & Web-Wide Choices

In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. If You would like to find out more information, please visit https://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or https://www.youronlinechoices.com. More ad control options are listed in The Global Policy.
